Spanning on the equator, the gem-like Maldives, which consist of over 1190 tiny coral islands, arranged in ring formations called atolls depict the rare vision of a tropical paradise. Marco Polo referred to Maldives as ‘.. the flower of Indies’ and Ibn Batuta called in his chronicles, ‘ one of the wonders of the world’. With over 100 islands operating as tourist resorts, most resorts are located in four center atolls: North Male’, South Male’, North Ari Atoll and South Ari Atoll. Maldives is blesses with the natural beauty of a tropical island paradise and unique underwater life making it one of the most sought after destination in the world.

Independent from the outside world for so long, the Maldives has retained the charms of its cultures and perfect environment. Many Maldivians still follow a traditional lifestyle in fishing villages and Main Township of Male’ provides an insight into how important the Islamic religion is in the everyday life of the Maldivians.
